Weekly Internship Journal

Since this is my real job too its really hard to differentiate between internship work and regular work. That being said it has been some time since i was last able to do some solid designing for the store. I did do some face booking and random prettying of things about the store during that time but this week I for sure have a lot to accomplish. I was assigned the task of recreating the employee handbook. So this week I did a lot of research on what, legally, needs to be in a handbook according to the South Dakota state law. Really, it wasn't that bad. From what I have found its really just a lot of things that need to be mentioned to cover both the store owner and employees bottoms should anything happen. My manager also wants to make it so that if there are any easy questions while he is not at the store that the employees can easily look to the handbook and find what they need. My goals for next week is to have a really super good start and maybe even a proof of what the handbook will look like and how it will function.

6/14/14 – 6/23/14

This week (and some)  has been pretty brutal.  I needed to really push the coupon flyer so it can be sent out for the 4^th of July. (we have some pretty sweet deals on this flyer!!) I have everything laid out the way I want it and have quite a few pictures in place. I need to get a few more pictures and place them before tomorrow, when its due.  I learned that I procrastinate too much. I really need to improve on that. As for next week. The flyer will be sent to the printers and then sent out with Leader Land.  Then I will design a lot of smaller things for facebook, and for little things around the store that need to be prettied up.

            This week I ordered the business cards through vista print and they arrived very fast and look really well done. Brandon says he is very happy with them and so is Tony, the store owner.  We did a lot of work and talk on the coupon flyer this week and a half. Which is why I lumped them together. There was not a whole lot of different things but more two really big things. This coming coupon flyer is a pretty big deal for Brandon. I really want to impress him with it too since i have designed a coupon flyer for him in the past.

5/27/14 – 6/3/14

            This week I wanted to get a good start on the business card situation. I did a lot of research on what is popular and how business cards benefit a company or person. I was really surprised when I learned that businesses that hand out cards have a sales increase of about 2.5% for every 200 cards handed out. It doesn’t sound like much but when the business is a small one that 2.5% is a lot. I also did quite a bit on the facebook page this week.  I added a cover photo, which I want to tweak up a bit yet. I also made a few photo posts promoting a few sale items we have going on. My goal for next week is to finish the business cards and have them sent out to be printed and to get together a coupon flyer to be ready to send out july 1(ish).

Weekly Internship Journal

5/19/14 – 5/26/14

            This week at MDL was pretty crazy, considering this is my actual job too. For my internship I did a lot of talking with my supervisor Brandon, about what he wanted me to accomplish and when he wanted these tasks finished.  The first two things he asked me to do was create a facebook page and design business cards. So far I have the beginning of the Facebook page going and I have looked at business card ideas. My goal for next week is to have a solid design ready to be okay’d by Brandon.
